Cummins QSB 6.7 Anode Locations

By Chris Seevers

Please note, all anode locations and sizes were verified on a 380hp variant of the Cummins QSB 6.7 with a ZF 85A transmission manufactured in November of 2023. Based on your engines horsepower rating, transmission, and date of manufacture, size and location of your anodes may vary.

Aftercooler- There are two anodes located in the aftercooler, which is on the port side of the engine. One anode is in the forward lower portion, and the other is in the upper aft portion. Both are E-2 anodes- which utilize a 1/2” NPT plug, and a 2” x 5/8” anode.
Heat Exchanger- There are two anodes located in the heat exchanger, which is located on the starboard side of the engine. The two anodes are in the forward lower portion, just aft of the alternator. Both are E-1 anodes- which utilize a 3/8” NPT plug, and a 2” x 1/2” anode.
Transmission Cooler- There is one anode in the transmission cooler, which is located on the aft end of the engine and below the air filter. The anode is in the lower port side. It is an E-1E anode- which utilize a 3/8” NPT plug, and a 1 1/2” x 1/2” anode. Please note: There is a small plug in the upper port portion of the cooler. This is not the location of the anode! It has mistaken in the past, and even indicated as the location on a prominent marine diesel website.
