2024 Helmsman Trawlers 38 Sedan
Highlights
The Helmsman 38 Sedan is built on the same hull as the 38E Pilothouse, but offers a very different deck plan which provides full walk-around side decks, protected by deep hull bulwarks. These decks enable easy movement around the main level of the boat in challenging sea and weather conditions.
The Sedan model provides a large cockpit fully protected by an extended hardtop. The top deck places the flybridge forward for an enormous, unobstructed space for plenty of guests, plus room for a large dinghy and fixed seating for six people. And for excellent forward visibility.
The hull is a semi-displacement design with soft chines and a full keel providing effective protection for the prop and rudder.
This boat is also the fastest Helmsman Trawler built to-date! Built with a 550 hp Cummins QSB6.7 diesel engine and combined with a custom-engineered 5-blade Michigan Wheel propeller it is capable of achieving 18 knots top speed and cruising at 14 knots. The boat will will comfortably cruise at 7-9 knots for better fuel economy and longer range.
Entering the cabin from the cockpit there is a custom-specified interior layout reminiscent of the Grand Banks Europa trawlers. To port is a L-shaped dining settee with a high / low table which converts to a double berth. To starboard is a linear settee, the same length as the dining settee, which also serves as a single berth.
Moving forward the L-shaped galley is to port, with Caesarstone countertops and backsplash, under-counter refrigerator and freezer, under-counter convection oven / microwave, two-burner induction cooktop, and sink. Five overhead drop-down cabinets accommodate dishes and glassware. The cabinet includes four drawers for cutlery.
To starboard is a custom cabinet consisting of four drawers forward, and a cabinet aft that has moveable shelves and can be used as additional galley storage, and also has a hanging rod built in to allow use as a hanging locker.
Forward to starboard is the lower helm station, featuring a custom extended-width 36” seat to comfortably seat two side-by-side. A full $50,000 electronics package is fitted (see details below) centered around a 17” Garmin 8617 MFD (which offers 35% more screen area than a 16” screen, and more screen area than two 12” displays).
Companionway steps lead forward to the stateroom separate ensuite head and shower compartments. There is a separate entrance to the head compartment from the companionway.
The master stateroom features a queen berth on centerline, with drawers beneath, and hanging lockers plus additional lockers and shelves along both sides. To port is the door to the head compartment, which includes a watertight door into the engineroom. To starboard is the entrance to the large, separate shower compartment.
The flybridge features dual helm and navigator seats, plus a large L-shaped settee and table to port which comfortably accommodates four (or more) people. A custom cabinet to starboard hides a second refrigerator on the flybridge. Plenty of storage forward of the helm under the flybridge and under the settee.
